CROSS BREED PROFILE Jack Russell x Staffy
Jack Russell-Staffy (Staffordshire Bull Terrier) cross is a very intelligent, active, medium size, moderate shedding dog. Good with children and a good companion, it shows a high degree of affection.
The Staffie breed has been taught to be aggressive by some, so trainng this breed is a must. It might be happiest if it is the only dog in the family. Training should be fairly easy due to the “smarts” of this dog. The picture is an example of this breed and what this cross may look like. We had to remove the red eyes from the camera as not to scare you! Really lovely looking dog!
We would love to add your pictures and comments to this post if you have this cross breed – please email them to info@getsetpet.co.uk
These are a few pictures of my jack- russell staffy, Bundy. He is 16 months old now but the photo’s range from when we got him at 8 weeks. He is like a
permanent addition to the family now and would not give him up for anything. This breed is quite easy to train and is very sociable with humans and other dogs. Is a bit more wary with other animals though.
A very happy breed and all you have to do to make them happy is take them for a walk. Low maintenance, very loyal and surprisingly does not bark. Probably only had about 20 barks in the whole time we’ve owned him. Wonderful breed that I would suggest for most people.

Meet Fiddy he has the head of a staffy with a bit of a long body , stumpy
little legs and the markings of a jack russel. He is the cutest dog i have ever seen but maybe thats because hes ours and hes perfect!! alot of people call him “milo” from the movie The Mask, even though his white with black markings.
Fiddy 2yrs 3mths Check Out the Loveheart! He also has a black love heart x
Thanks very much Emily & Alan

Interesting mix glad to find these on your sight not easy to find x breed info thanxs
possibly stating that a staffidshire bull terrior can be agressive breed this is not true its nothing to do with the breed more to with the owner im sorry but i get very angry when i see this about staffs becouse its misinforming the public in a negative way to a very loyal and kind breed of dog (aka the nanny dog ) i have herd of more unfounded attacks by jack russles infact ive nevr met a well looked afer agressive staffidshire bull terrior
I also take the point that this breed should not be told as being as aggressive but people must be aware that they can be if they have been handled wrong in the case of rehoming etc
It’s the most loving, intelligent, obedient dog i’ve had. He’s now 9 years old. He’s a bit aggressive towards children because he was teased by children when he was young. I believe if he didn’t had this bad experience he wouldn’t be like that towards children. He’s also very protective towards me but very friendly and playfull towards people who is not aggressive towards me.
Well done for supporting Staffies! The most affectionate and loving dog I’ve ever had. Unfortunately mine is now very shy with people as he was kicked by an ignorant woman when he was young. Such a shame that they are misunderstood – don’t judge unless you’ve had one yourself!!
hi i just got a jack russell cross staffie n collie :s was wondering if any1 knew what this pup will be like or look like when older also if any1 has one breed the same ?? thanks
i am lokking fore a puppy just to see if any of u out thair and what kind
Ive got a staffordshire bull terrier, And i think hes a cross with a jack russell too! Hes a brilliant dog and so affectionate with me! The story that staffys are nasty dogs is just rediculous.
hi this is a lovely dog i cannot believe that it is crossed with what a tiny dog it doesnt seem possible
Does anyone no what a datshound (sorry about the spelling) and a pomaranion would look like when born or 6 months to a year ? Pleasse post photos asap x thank you Deborah x
I also have a 3 yr old Staffie and is the the most well behaved and loveable dog I have ever had. It is ignorant people thinking that all Staffies are aggressive, it is down to the owner. I hate when I take her for a walk and people with other dogs look at me in disgust when my dog is the one just walking and their dog is the one growling at my dog. Try owning one before you judge one!
Have grown up with staff’s, i get really cross when i read about how nasty staff’s are, my mum had a staff for 16 yrs,all 3 of my children learnt to walk holding on to a hand full of her coat, the only problem with staff’s are the idiot owner’s,, but having said that some people should never be allowed to have a dog what ever breed it is, i have a 10 month old staff bitch, and she is great, very loving and loves every one,
We are lucky enough to have one of these lovely dogs. We resced her after she had been in 3 different homes at the age of 1 year. She is nearly 2 years now. She gets on well with our staffie x whippett although there is some food aggression which may stem from lack of food when she wad young. She was kept in a dog cage in a spare room when we found her and had no training but now she is an affecionate little dog that looks just like sad sam!
I have a 11 month old staffie cross jack russell which is an angel, he is great with my 18 month old and my 6 year old. i have had one of these already who lived to a ripe old age 17 and he was also an angel.Good cross breed, i would recommend these dogs to anyone.
can anyone email me any pics of staffy cross jack russell? possibly Richard!!! as we have just bought one….dont get it til mid feb and wonder what sort of size he’ll be when older. i appreciate any help…. tinamatt10@yahoo.co.uk
i have one and they are great around children and love alot of walks , would recomend 1 to any dog lover and good owner !
I rescued a Staffy x JRT last year and she is a fabulous little dog. Very intelligent but wilful! I have had to be very consistent and vigilent with the training as she could easily become quite dominant. She is great with kids, loves people and attention and is fine with our cat but is very bossy with other dogs. She is easily the most active dog I have ever had and I wouldn’t recommend getting one unless you are really commited to walking. Mine doesn’t mind rain, snow, cold, whatever, she just loves to be out. She rarely barks, like somebody else mentioned. With regards to Tina’s enquiry, mine has a smaller frame than a Staffy and only just reaches medium height. She has the Staffy coat and markings but more of a JRT face shape and ears. Good luck with yours.
hey guys been reading all your comments and thought we would post 1. We also have a staffy x jack russell. He will be 2 in june 2010 and hes the cutest dog ever! He is very intelligent and full of energy, has brilliant black markings over his white fur. has a samll jack body and a staff head( anyone seen milo out the mask) is very good natured and very vocal as if hes really trying to communicate with you. he also sports a lovely black loveheart on his side . We will upload some pics for you all to see . Can never get a better breed so everyone hating on staffs back up ! cheers
we have just had a litter of staffy/jack russels (24/1/10), we have both the mum (jrt)and dad (staffy),we also have grandmother staffie. i would like to agree with comments made early, staffies are the “nanny” if there are any kids messing about and it starts getting out of hand the staff grandma will give a warning bark as if saying ” easy, someone will yet hurt”. The jtr has always been good at seeing to the puppies, both her own and the staffy’s. but boy can she bark, and has to have the last word. I can wait for those pups to grown and if from the comments posted, i hope they will be great dogs, both breeds are very loyal, loving and each smart in the own ways, i hope my pups with have the best of both breeds.
We have just rescued a staffy x jack russell last Saturday. She is approx 4-5 years old. She is the most loving, affectionate and well behaved doggie. We have only had 1 episode of soiling and that was on the 1st night we had her. Absolutely brilliant with our grandchildren even though it was only the 1st time she had met them. Everybody that has met her loves her. All she asks for is loads of love, a bit of food and to get on your lap as often as she can. We can’t believe our luck !!!! Highly recommend!!!!
We rescued Rosie our SBT/JRT in Feb 2008 when she was 18 months old. She is a fabulous, intelligent, loving, willful little dog who adores my 8 year old daughter who regularly pushed her around in her dolls pram as well as dressing her up in various outfits – she has never complained. Rosie is a joy to have in the house and just loves human interaction, cuddles, fun and LOTS of walks – I swear she would walk all day if only we had the time. Would really recommend this breed and if anyone knows of any puppies please let me know – my mum is now in search of one!
i have recently bought a puppy and i am so excited to see all these great comments about the dogs i have 2 young children who are equally excited so thankyou to the people who have made me feel my choice of puppy could not be any better ill let you know how things are going and my mum is also having the sister of the litter.
Just got a 31/2 year old male and hes great. Good with my 9yr old girl and the cats are getting used to him. I dearly thank the lady who passed him on to us. He is house trained and very playful. What a great little dog
Hey guys, this breed has a lovely temprement they are smart and fun loving, sure they dig and explore but what dog doesnt, also i agree with Dannielle Bennet, dogs arent agressive unless they are taught look at rotwiellers and Alsations, even Staffies, they are all very loyal and affectionate, people who do not treat the dog right, and do not exercise her or him are the ones who get attacked because the dog feels threatened, Ive grown up with dogs all my life and not once have i been bitten or agressed, except for my pup Staff x Jack Russel, but thats because he is teething and I need to inforce no biting, he doesnt know any better regardless theyre amazing dogs and I love my 10 week old Pup!
Also If you would like a description Freddi is only very little at the moment, 3 Kilos to be exact, a gorgeous white coat with a black eye mask over his eyes and back of his head, and a dark brown/black spot at the base of his tail, he also has almost navy blue eyes
he is gorgeous
hi, i also have 2 jack russell x staffy cross, they are my 2 little girls and very cute, they just want 2 be with us all te time and don’t like 2 be left alone for one minute. we bought them as staffy’s but soon, realised that they was a jack russell, staffy cross . before them we had 3 staffy bitches they were the love of our life’s ,unfortunately they are no longer with us. we just can’t imagine our life’s without our litte ruska an olmega our cross breeds
love your site i think that staffys have a bad rep from no fault of thier own its the owners that treat them wrong that turn them from the way mine and my sisters are into these misunderstood dogs that people are afraid of i have a beutiful russell x staffy and you couldnt wish for a nicer dog
hi there just wundering if someone had any info on breeding a jack rusell with staffy? I realy just want to know if the male will have to be roughly the same size! I will be puting pics up soon as shes a wee dog so im worried abowt causing problems, also i think there mite be a bit of staffy in her already not realy sure! thanks for any info
I have a staff/Jruss cross called loui. He is know 5mths old and I would recommend this cross breed as he is very friendly and obediant. Lovely, lovely dog.
hi i have a staffie x jack russel he is loverly loven n its just wen he goes out he turns into a different dog he goes wild at other 1s i have to take him to feilds away frm al the others
We have a 5 month of staffy / jack russle cross and she is amazing… she loves playing and has us on our feet all the time. I will admit when i heard she was a staffy i was abit worried about the rumors you hear but shes been brillaint. Her dad was the staffy and he has such a nice nature.
hi i have wot i think is a staff Russel he is white with the typical markings of a staff/jack Russel on his face in brindle and a patch on his bum hence the name he also has dark spots on his skin and stands taller then the average staff we got patch as a rescue dog had him around 6 months he was about 11 months or so when we got him he is very playful and has loads of energy and loves both of our kids 8 and 4 we also have 2 cats but he only gets on with the male of the 2 as they are around the same age and play together often the only thing is when he sees another dog he goes nuts like he is a different dog but apart from that i cant fault this breed at all
Brilliant site, my JRT has been caught by my SBT so now I know what the offspring will look like. I agree with all the pro Staff comments on here I have two and a jack, if ever there’s trouble the Jack has caused it (and normally ends it to be honest). The Staffie’s are ace and are well known on my local park for there good behaviour. There wonderful around my little girl even when she mauls and grabs them, couldn’t ask for a better family companion. The comment regarding not letting idiots loose with any breed of dog is spot on, I wouldn’t let them loose with a Guinea Pig let alone a dog. I’ll be vetting and home visiting before letting any of the fourth coming pups out of my house.

Hi Our Jack Russell Staffi Cross witha touch of Kelpie is now 16 weeks old (A Rescue). She is very bright, fast to learn and great with people including children and socialises well with dogs. the only concearn I have is, that when we sit down at the beach or a parkand a dog approaches she barks and growles at them and becomes very teritorial and the same thing happened when a friend picked her up and gave her a drink from her cup (which I should have stopped as this is something we never do) she ground and barked and chased a friends dog her came near the cup. I took her away for 10 min and then brought them back together and they were fine. So any ideas how to reduce teritorial behaviour and also how big (tall) do they grow ?
Hi,
Have rescued a staffie/jack russell cross bitch who is great with adults and children but very unpredicable with other dogs – either is very friendly or goes off – doesn’t bite but sounds vary scary. I am frightened for her – I find it hard to get over the the dangerous dogs stigma – me again!! I know that the biggest problem with her is me! – how do you I gain confidence with her? And how do I become an effective dog owner?
Hi Angela, My jtr/staffy sounds very similar to yours. She greets other dogs by lying in wait then racing towards them at full speed all the while growling. The greet looks agressive but actually she just wants to chase or be chased. She just doesn’t know how to approach other dogs as she gets so excited. She plays rough if other dogs allow it and gets a bit mouthy which can be mistaken for biting but she never actually bites and never ever fights. If another dog tells her enough is enough she will always head back and sit at my feet. She’s a bit of a coward really considering the fuss she makes at first. They learn best by interacting with as many other dogs as possible I think. I have been shouted at by other dog owners and can understand their fear, I usually shout “She’s ok, it’s just noise, she won’t hurt”. I really lost confidence after meeting many grumpy dog owners and was starting to keep her on the lead but I have gritted my teeth and carried on visiting the dog park. I owe it to her. Most people know us by now and I recognise the uptight ones who don’t want my dog mixing with theirs. I have also met brilliant people who have let my dog race around with theirs and have really suprised some who now see her as I do, a fun loving, slightly mad but ultimately lovely dog. It takes time and you will meet people who believe all the over exaggerated headlines but I intend to just keep on proving them wrong. I now walk her with confidence, she’s brilliant, just a little rough round the edges. I call it personality! I wish you the best with yours.
hi my name is dave i live near Guildford in surrey ihad a wonderful jack cross staffy for 16 years he passed on in january i still miss him real bad there can be no better dog . I have been looking for pup or young dog [or bitch] for a while now i would be very grateful if somebody out there could put me in touch thanks DAVE
I have just found out that I have a staffle cross with jrt .He is very playful my staffle mixed with jrt loves to get after our horses .I would never get rid of him thanks, Ginger
Hi Dave, Try http://WWW.PUPSNEEDINGHOMES.CO.UK. Jo
We adopted a 2 year old, 3-legged JRT/SBT cross 6 years ago and she’s been a dream. Great with the grandchildren and with the other two dogs (one older and one younger), very fast at chasing balls and loves walking (and we thought with a missing leg she wouldn’t need much exercise) and friendly with other dogs, although if a strange dog picks on one of her friends she’s the first to go to the rescue. Also very loving and seems to be permanently attached to my side. The only fault I can find with her is that she’s an inveterate barker (especially if she’s on the lead and sees another dog, although off-lead she’s friendly and sociable (unless she’s chasing a ball in which case she ignores everything else).
I have a Jackstaff called Baxter and he is a 2 1/2 year old, he is absolutely stunning and just looks like a little version of a staff but with short legs and a really muscular body! He is just like a staff temperment and is amazing with my 2 year old, he loves people and is the most loving dog i have ever met or known! He is not at all aggressive, loves other dogs! He seems to have picked up all the good traits of a staff and only a very small amount of Jack russell. His dad was a big muscely working farm jack so has a very strong instinct to hunt for rabbits etc, but always comes back when he realises he is without me ( although that can take an hour) It sounds silly but he really doesnt mean to its just he cant help it, it is not a discapline thing just a very strong urge to find out what the smell leads to! He needs alot of excersise and stimulation, but am fortunate i have a woods at the bottom of my road, so walk him 2 good walks a day and then is a cuddly boy for the rest of the day! This breed should become a standard as it is a brilliant cross breed!
hi does any want to get rid of a staffie please let me know asap ashleybutler28@ymail.com
hi i have a staffy cross jackrussell and she is beautiful but she is nearly eight months old and still very tiny and dosnt seem to be growing and she very hairy around her face but body seems to be short haired anyone have any ideas when they grow and what she will turn out looking like her mum was the beautiful staff i ever seen thanks
Hi, we have a jackstaff and a full staffy and I can say they are the most beautifull, caring and loyal dogs. They constantly want your love and attention and would recommend either. Staffys are not bad natured dogs it how the owner brings them up.
I have a beautiful 11 week old Jack Russell x staffy he is mega hyperactive and without a doubt one of the cutest pups ever he looks more like a Jack Russell and loves people and animals he loves cuddles car rides and apples lol
I reccomend this cross breed to anyone!
hi i adopted a dog from a shelter and was told she was a staff cross but they wasn’t sure what with on the dog park some people sujested she was cross with a jack russle now on this site i think so too thanks for the pics they was a big help xx
Hi,we are getting Arni,a staff/jack cross from a rescue centre soon. He is beautiful, 9 months old, gentle but a little anxious. He is a jumper! Any hints or tips? He has had two homes already (!!) been in kennels since Dec, and it is encouraging to see positive comments about cross as we think he is lovely! previous owner said he was destructive-no evidence in kennel-be grateful for advice.
Hi, I have a 2 year old Jaffy as I call her. She is called Morgan and Looks remarkably like Poppy. I wouldn’t change her for the world! She is my best friend an a loyal companion.
I have a Staffy x Jack Russel called Gizmo who’s 6 months old, She’s Going to be tiny like a Jack Russel though she has the staffy forehead wrinkles and she’s black with brindle legs, Quite a handful. Though well worth it, They love to play, but willl quite happily curl up on your lap. Gizmo gets scared easily (aeroplanes, cars, if you accidentally drop something) Trying to help this problem but she’s beautiful no matter what (May be bias as she’s my dog) She’s mischevious and loves to hide everything. She’s hides toys in shoes and my jeans pocket while I’m wearing them. I would recommend this breed of dog to anyone who has a lot of time and patience. Beautiful mix. As long as you train them, love them, play with them, They’ll be you loyal friend forever.
