CROSS BREED PROFILE: Collie x German Shepherd
A Collie German Shepherd Cross will be a medium to large size dog. It’s loyal, lively with high intelligence, and easily trained.
It will need lots of grooming as both breeds are high shedding dogs. Be prepared to exercise this dog but also to have a lifelong friend.
Do you have a Collie German ShepherdCross? If so please write a comment and tell us about him or her.
We would also like you to send in any photos of your Collie German ShepherdCross so we can add them to this profile for our readers to share with you.
Email photos to info@getsetpet.co.uk with the words “Profile Collie German Shepherd Cross” in the subject line. Thank you.

This is my dog Vicky. She loves people and loves to play. She is great with the kids and is afraid of absolutely nothing. Loves to be vaccumed and tries to attack fireworks (we have to keep her locked up at New Years). loves water and frisbee. Can tolerate other dogs but is primarily dominant and on the whole ignores other dogs when put in a social situation. Great guard dog but great family dog too! Thank you Elisabeth Anderson

Hey I’m a dog handler and have a german Shepard cross with a collie she is 2 and a half years old and is the best dog ive had so far she has so much to give and is so protective And such an amazing dog to have so clever ha maybe smarter than me
I am looking into getting a 2 1/2 year old male German Shepherd/Collie that looks similar to Noki from a local shelter and was very happy to see all of the pro’s and con’s that other people have written about, especially ons with children. This has helped me considerably on my decision. Thank you.
hello me and my partner have had our dog for almost 7 months his previous owners told us he is a german shepard cross with staff but people have come up to us and said he has collie in him because of the white on his paws and on his chest so now we not sure what breed he is
ihave a collie/shepard he looks like a wolf but hes a big softee he was dumped outside our house at 12 weeks old hes now 11years a very special dog very protective of family a real character very much loved sadly got hip dysplacia now the mines willing but the body isnt .all round fab mix .can suffer separation anxiety as they love their family so much
Our german shepherd/collie mix Patch is our first dog and we love taking him on long walks. We love him very much and he shows us how much he loves us all the time. He doesn’t leave my daughter’s side and they enjoy playing hide and seek when we are out and in the house!! No matter how well she hides he always finds her. He has a good nose!! He is so good natured, fun loving and gentle. Patch is the best thing we have ever got. I would recommend this mix to anyone (and I used to be scared of dogs!)
Tippy is 7 months old. GSD BC mix. We rescued her and it was the best decision we have ever made. She us great with kids, gentle with our chihuahuas and a great cuddle bunny at night. Never had a dog as smart or as funny as she is. I love her to bits!
we have a wonderful gsd/collie, i had huge fear of dogs, but lucky having him has helped me, he’ll be a year soon, and he’s a happy chappy. he’s honesty very good all the things i read/heard what dogs do, not the case at all. hes gentle loving and he’s our little teddy bear (he does look like a teddy bear) he can be ‘goofy/dosey’ sometimes, but it’s cute. he’s love watch the birds in the garden he even shares his grub with them!!!! He is our little boy. xxx
Forgot to say she was brilliant on a 6 hour train ride recently (family holiday). She behaved more than the kids!
Hi. I have a 17 month old female gsd x collie. She is beautiful and looks like a fox! This breed is the best. She is very loyal, good with cats, dogs and kids and loves cuddles. The shedding is a bit annoying but so worth it. She doesn’t like to be left alone and loves being outside. I would recommend this breed to anyone. She is very clever and easy to train. I love her to bits!
Up until 4 days ago I had the most beautiful german shepherd x collie, he was beautiful outside an in. I got him from a rescue centre when he was a year old, and I had to make the terrible decision to have him put to sleep at age 13 1/2, as he could no longer walk or get himself up without being in a lot of pain. I would recommend the breed to anyone – he was my best friend and I will never forget him
We have an amazing collie x german shepherd, he is mostly black but has some white on his paws and chest, I think he takes his colouring from his mum (collie) but he just looks like a slightly smaller black german shepherd
I have had dogs all my life and he is by far the best dog I have ever had the pleasure of owning (I loved all my dogs though) he is excellent with children, takes so much abuse off our 2year old son, excellent with other dogs, excellent with cats, infact hes just such a softy its unbelievable! my rabbit trys to “mate” with his back legs and he just sits there and puts up with it, hes a fantastic dog!
We have a 14 month old German Shepherd Border Collie named Roxy and she is a wonderful lovely, very obedient, cute, very easy to train dog. I couldn’t be more pleased with her! Awesome dog!!
See my previous entry and her(! YES, it’s a she!) picture above. Our dog sheds twice a year and in between practically nothing. She can eat anything, never had a problem with her digestion, she won’t eat poop and rotten things, she won’t roll over in all kinds of funny stinky things… she loves swimming, sauna(!), frisbees, agility, herding, balls, tools(!)… she understands how to use a mirror – she looks at me through the mirror from the back seat of the car and likes a game where we sit behind her, she has our bedroom mirror in front of her and she watches us through the mirror – when we move behind her, she turns around and gives us a kiss. She barks if someone acts strange, but loves people, any kind of people, pushing carts, umbrellas, black, white, hoods, you name it… I’d take a second one any time, but right now our Noki -it’s a she – not a he
is only 1 yr 10 mths… There’s alot of pictures and info about this mix on my facebook group page: Border Collie x German Shepherd mix Dogs … Please add your dogs, pictures, videos, what they like, problems, good sides etc. X-rayed her joints and had her eyes checked all ok.
we have a border collie x GSD. She came to us at 16 months old from a rescue centre and is now 6 years old. Lady is highly intelligent , loves to play with a ball but is not keen on other dogs, despite a lot of training. She is without a doubt the best dog we’ve had but can be nervous around people she doesn’t know and is a nightmare in a car!! She also suffers from EPI which is controlled by daily medication. We could’nt be without her though!!!
WOuld reccomend White GSD cross to active family who wold like learn about all aspects of dog ownership, and the fun it entails. , white GSDs can suffer from digestive issues i beleive and ours did, excellent to train brilliant at agility, fly ball, anything fun, need mental stimulation – hide and search games at home, some separation aniexty issues, best friend and loyalty without the agression / confrontation of a GSD to deal with.
We have a gsd cross collie, he is 6 years old ish, we rescued him 4 years ago. He is very loving to those he knows but doesn have nerviouness around people, very strong guarding instincts and very protective. He is great with kids and people. I love him to bits, but would think twice about another one. they need lots of excerise and a very good well balanced diet with no additivies, i believe this is why my boy wa hyper for so long as we fed him wrong food, he is much calmer now. He loves footballs and is very good at twists and somersults when catching balls. With the right training and food i believe they make super pets espceilly if you want a bit of protection. as i say very good around kids. My boy is my baby amd i have learnt alot about dog care since having him.
Hi Noki, I have a 10 week old German Shepherd x staffy called Bailey but he just looks like a collie, he’s jet black with white on his chest, paws and a white patch on his nose

We are looking at adopting a white sheperd x border collie – we are making our decision this wknd and in the meantime have been researching both breeds. I have 5 & 7 yr old daughters…so looking for a dog that will be suitable with children. I am a little anxious about the amount of exercise they will require each day, however we live very close to an unleashed dog park and will commit to a lot of time spent over there, as well as finding as many ways to stimulate the dog as we can. I also wonder about the amount of shedding – is it ridiculous, or is it tolerable?! This particular dog is super sweet, he is pure white and he’s 3 months old so has a lot of fun bouncy energy. Does anyone know if it will keep its white coat or is it likely to change? Thanks for any information you can provide.
My fiance and I just added a BC/GS cross pup to our family he is 9 weeks old and his energy level very high!! We have had him for a week and he has put on 5 lbs and is totally house trained. Sits, fetches, comes when called, and is a polite dog… most of the time. We could not have asked for a better puppy.
Can someone tell me where I can get a collie/german shepherd. I am looking for one that has long dark hair with brown spots and eyes. Kinda like the picture on the top of this post.
Any information would be appreciated. I live in Canada.

We also have a border collie x german shepherd mix dog. She’s black with white on her chest and two of her paws. Strong herding instincts, loves people and being part of what we are doing. Lot’s of energy! I’d love to hear from owners of similar mixes!
i have a georgus german shepherd x border collie, it loves children is so smart and protective and i couldn’t find a more perfect dog (p.s. he is male!!!)
Hi. We have a beautiful 5 year old female Collie/German Shepherd cross called Bonny. She came to us as a rescued 5 week old pup who could barely eat and was covered in ticks & fleas. She slept in our bed for 6 months until she was confident enough to be with the other dogs. She has brought us great joy and has the most wonderful nature – both with children and other animals. She however is a bit shy of other dogs but can stand her ground if she is under threat. She loves balls and loves to swim in our pool whenever she gets the chance. She can be lively but is not highly strung and can be walked without a leash as she is incredibly obedient and comes when called.
My dog is still only a puppy, but it is already learning really fast, he’s playful, loyal, cute and good with everyone- except some other animals that scare him haha
I have a collie/german shepard and he is loving, great with kids obedient, protective and never leaves my side max is the best dog ever
