Brandy and Mollie
Brandy has lived me since July 1999 and Mollie since May 2004. I absolutely love my dogs and would do anything to keep them. My marriage split up in October 2008 and since then I have fought to keep my dogs with me and my who is sixteen. We both always took responsilbity for the dogs over my ex-husband but my circumstances were very different until October. I had always managed to balance things as I worked locally and then started a Countryside college course which meant I was able to spend lots of time with my dogs.
When my marriage broke down I had to leave college and find a job which means I have to leave the house at 8 am and don’t get home until 6 pm at night, my son is starting his A levels in September and it’s just isn’t fair on my dogs to be couped up all day. We relocated to Dorset four and half years ago and I have no family here that can help me out, I cannot afford a dog walking service.
Brandy is the most loyal of dogs and so sweet natured with people, he love a lot of attention and I think he believes he is human. He will make “staffy” noises if I am in conversation with others. He will make this noise as soon as I open the bedroom door in the morning as he wants to go out and it can be a bit of a rude wakening but he knows some day that his walk is a little later and he has to just go in the garden first thing. He has never shown any aggression to people and has been around young children up until now with no problems, obviously with close attention from myself.
He is not good with other dogs although he has walked with my brothers do and a friends dog with no bother but there have been a couple of scraps with others though no damage just noise. I don’t let him off the lead if I am walking in the local green areas, however at the weekends we go for very long walks in quite remote areas and he can run and trot for hours.
He is obviously old in years but you would not think it when he is playing with Mollie, he can pester her a bit with unwanted attention sometimes but she soon tells him off, he is quite dominated by her at times. He will sit, lay down and wait (as opposed to heel). He eats complete food, 2 smaller portions twice a day and likes a little bit of cheese as a treat as well as dog treats.
They never fight over their own food but human food left out has caused Mollie to go for Brandy on two occasions. This is the only time they have fought except when we first got Mollie they fought over toys. We just be careful to give toys when we are not about.
Brandy will have a pat and a stroke and will sleep with his heat on your foot but he’s not a lap dog as such. Mollie and Brandy both sleep on one sofa and Mollie will stay all night, Brandy however lays on guard outside my bedroom door or on my floor if invited in. They never go on our beds.
Mollie is a total lap dog and loves to have a cuddle on the sofa, she seems to prefer women as a rule and will bark at in hi-vis jackets when we are out, especially postman. She is good natured though slightly less social with humans than Brandy but no problem there either.
She is fine with other dogs and walks of the lead in the local green areas, she loves to chase rabbits and squirrels and Brandy just chases her! She has complete dog too at the same time as Brandy but prone to eating anything form grass and sheep -poo to leftover pinics so she needs close observation when out and about as this can give her runny stools. She will pinch any food left on the side as well. She often collects stones from the beach and loves a ball/stick. Mollie will sit and wait and come back if you click click your teeth but she can disappear into the undergrowth for quite a while and come back with bramble in her ears, which she is loathe to let you unpick.
Mollie and Brandy both dislikes cats!
They are both up to date with their jabs including kennel cough and fine with jabs, though Mollie hates the kennel cough up her nose. They have Bob Martin flea spot-on and worm tablets and have both had neither as yet! They have never been ill and they have been insured for £28 per month for them both.
I would say the best environment for them would be somewhere with a lot of space like a farm or small/holding, where they can rough and tumble together, but they also need a lot of cuddles and love. I really hope they can be kept together and given the love they had but with someone who has more time and space for them. I have always manage to walk them on my own with Mollie of lead and Brandy on but on-one else has the confidence to do this, so someone strong who has had dogs before would be better.
I cannot express how devasted I am to have to give up my dogs but I know Last Chance is an amazing place who will make sure my dogs are happy.
Mollie is scared of fireworks, Brandy is fine.
Both are fine travelling in the car.
Brandy and Mollie
These are a lovely pair of dogs, but since being with us at Last Chance we have discovered they would be ok homed seperately if need be. Below is a letter from the dogs previous owner. Our staff would be happy to answer any questions you may have concerning either of these dogs.
