Wokingham Berkshire – Collie HOMED Feb 2010
Name: Meg
Breed: Collie
Age: 1 year
Sex: Female (Neutered)
Description: Black & White
Meg has a problem with one eye – the other is perfect! Before she is rehomed, DBARC’s Vets will treat the damaged eye to ensure there is no ongoing problem for her new owners. In the meantime, this lovely girl is available to be booked. Here is what her fosterer has to say about her: “Meg has only one good eye. She was found before Christmas near a bottle bank in a car park, very thin and terrified. She went into my Vets because of her injured eye. He thinks it might have been an ulcer which was never treated and that could have been the reason she was dumped, either by a farmer because she would be no good as a working dog or by someone who did not like the look of her eye. It gives her no trouble at all, is not painful, it blinks in unison with the good eye and does not weep. She manages with one eye perfectly and never bumps into things. I collected her from the Vets after a couple of days, she was such a terrified little dog, cowering down. If I put my hand out to stroke her she shivered, did not run away but obviously frightened of being hit, just scared out of her wits for what might happen. She must have been very badly treated, poor little girl. I have had her in foster for over a month now and the difference is amazing! As she gradually realized she was safe and nobody and nothing was going to hurt her, she has become the bounciest little dog, full of fun, tearing around the garden with the other dogs and the puppy, always ready for a game or a wrestling match, jumping up for a cuddle. If she hears the other dogs barking, she wants to go out and see what is going or stands up at the front window, barking if someone calls – she is definately guarding her new home. She is good with people when they call, although not over enthusiastic. Meg loves little Black Magic, the lab pup I am also fostering and they play endless games together. It is as if she has gone back to being a puppy, perhaps she had no puppyhood and is making up for it now. In the evenings she likes to sit on my knee (if it is not occupied by the pup) or beside me on the sofa and loves being stroked, she is very affectionate. She is fond of my husband too so seems to have no hangups about men. She is good with the cats apart from jumping up and barking at them when they are on the worktop. She learnt that from MIng, the Shih Tzu but they have no bad intentions – the cats just look at them. They all sleep together at night and I have no worries about them abd the cats certainly are not afraid, just treat them with the contempt they deserve. Meg is very clean in the house, comes when she is called and walks quite nicely on a lead. She jumps into the car quite readily but is still car sick even on a short journey, but is getting better and I am sure will grow out of this. She is such a dear little girl and I would love to keep her but it is better she has her own home, she would live very happily with another dog, especially one that would play with her. She will become a very faithful companion as all she wants is someone to love and who will give her lots of love back. She so wants to please and be praised. She is very intelligent and I think would enjoy training and learning something new things. Meg is ready to go now as she gets on well with people, enjoys going back to the vets and I don’t want her to get too settled here. She may be a bit shy at first, but I think with lots of TLCl, she will be making friends in a very short time.”
