CROSS BREED PROFILES: Staffordshire Bull Terrier x Labrador
These are medium size dogs, sometimes they are quite muscular. Colours may vary a lot.
And here a very cute puppy!
Staffy x Labrador mixes are good with children, great family dogs! They are smart and easy to train. They have lots of energy which is preferably released by running. You shouldn’t let them get bored, who knows what they will get their teeth into!

This is Buster our StaffxLab cross he is a good cross breed, very smart and easy to train and the funniest dog I know. He is brilliant with children and super friendly also very strong and well built. But not one bit aggressive or moody. Info sent in by Lorraine Ruane

Just a picture of Elvis at 7 months. More lab than staffy in looks but more staffy in personality. Sent in by Nathan Dennett

This is maisy an 8mth battersea rescue pup. She is a wonderful cross breed, she has endless amounts of energy for running but very placid and laid back in the house. Awesome and so gentle with my small children. Good to train but intelligent and needs firm boundaries. Sent in by Rachel Denbigh-White

hiya all i have a male staffi cross labrador..he is pure black,i have had him from 6 weeks old he is 5 at the end of april..all he wants is attention!! he is fantastic with my 2 children, but his bark is extremely loud,we have not taught him to bark just not been able to stop him,he has bundles of energy at times, then other times like now he chooses to fall asleep next to my sofa rather than on his comfy bed!!!! at the min since my ex left(a couple of years ago) he has become very clingy to me which is sweet in its own little way but only earlier was i in the bath, did he decide to come and join me!!! they are very quick learners and very obidient,my dog has feeding stands and when i feed him he automatically gives me his paw i dont even need to ask him for it,he has been toilet trained from around 10 weeks old,he puts his head on the sofa and waits to be told he can jump up!!!he loves his toys and bones the bigger the bone the better, but overall he is very good company and extremely loving,he has humped a few guests in the past but never humped me!!!!! he knows i am top dog…but i would certainely recommend this breed if brouhght up correctly they are extremely loyal dogs:)
I have a staffxlab puppy who is about 4 months old. He is a golden to orangy colour so we named him Rusty. He was a stray and my hubbie and i took him in. We have only had him for a few weeks and im starting to train him but he still isnt trained well to do anything. I have a book on training dogs and puppies and im doing my best to follow it but i get so fustrated with him. He has been jumping up on me trying to bite and scratch my legs an it hurts and stings so much. I cant afford obedience school. He growls when i tell him to stop and it makes me really angry i just leave him alone and go back in the house cause otherwise im scared he will attack me. I need help in training him.

Hi All! I rescued a staffie-lab mix almost a year ago. I was forwarded an email about this handsome boy needing a home and I knew I had to have him. I had just ended a 5 yr long relationship and was moving into my own place the following week so I wanted a dog to protect me. I took him to the vet and she guessed he was roughly 1 – 1 1/2 yrs old and in great health! I spent a whole day trying to figure out his previous name because I knew he had one but no luck, so I named him Tux. The white on his chest and front paws looks just like he has a tuxedo on! A year later (today) i have to say he has come a LONG way! It took him awhile to trust that when I left the house I was coming back and once he figured that out his whole attitude changed. He’s short and only 50lb but VERY VERY strong to the point he could (if he caught enough speed) drag me for miles! He loves walks and gets so excited when I grab the leash he jumps in the air about 5ft numerous time until he realized we cant go outside until he calms down and i put his leash on him. He is a huge fan of going on rides and running anywhere! Lots of energy but yet extremely lazy. You get the best of both worlds with this breed. He loves to cuddle and sit in my lap, literally sit in my lab…he thinks he’s a 2lb chihuahua not a 50lb dog. Very smart but i agree with everyone else on the dominant command part. He will think he is the king of our home unless I let him know he is not! Which he isn’t..You have to be consistent, that’s the key. Same one word commands all the time and stick to them. Mine doesn’t do well with children but I think its because he has never interacted with them.. i don’t know where he came from, remember? So I don’t know why he gets so scared and nervous around them. He also was terrified of men until as well. I would highly recommend this breed because you get the best of both worlds; a loving, lazy affectionate, smart, energetic and protective dog all in one. Absolutely thrilled I rescued him and am so happy to be his owner!
got a lab x staff a week ago 3rd owner 10 months old lovely boy bit sleepy toilet tranined does get abit active and alot of humping but calms down with commands lots of lead work to do lovely dog xxx
I rescued a labrador staffie cross (Meg) at the age of about 2 and after feeding her properly with Pedigree and biscuits mixed she turned out to be such a good looking girl. Her head and nose were quite staffie like but softened with a bit of a labrador look. She was the size of a labrador and built with the strength of a staffie. I don’t think she had ever been walked on a lead when I first had her and with a dog that powerful we quickly signed up to weekly dog training classes with proper registered trainers taking the class. We both came to enjoy the training classes although initially getting her used to other dogs and stopping her barking at the classes was difficult. The trainers were absolutely brilliant and we did get there. I always needed to be firm with her and anticipate potential problems with other dogs and some men while out walking but I think that is just a case of knowing your dog. I always said that with the intelligence of a labrador she knew what I wanted her to do but the staffie side was a bit of can I be bothered to do it. When she knew that there was no option she was always a good girl. Despite her size she was always very gentle and aware of her size around children. I lost custody of my dog but would definately have another labrador staffie if my new domestic situation allowed it.
Hi. Our brindles Jess and Patch came from the RSPCA at 6 months old. They are brother and sister and have brought much fun and comradeship during our first year of dog ownership. They are loving and superb with (almost) every dog andevery single person we have met. Jess has the brains, is always willing, keen to please and is allowed off the lead most of the time except when near traffic. Patch is evewn more friendly but is trouble and has had me swimming in a canal lock to rescue him after a fall. Let him off and he just sprints off to follow the nearest hedgehog/child/squirrel,goose poo. Mind you, he is just so cute and is a charmer with the ladies..particularly around the house. Best tip: choccie drops and a twin harness (they walk themselves without a lead
I’ve had my puppy Marley now for 5 months , I’m her 3rd owner and intend on being her last , shes 9 months old. Rescued her from starvation and brought her into a loving home , her chocolate coloured coat and white chest are to die for, shes very smart and loves attention from anybody who will give it to her, great with kids and if shes bored she nibbles on herself, love my dog , would recommend this breeding to anybody !
We have had Charlie for 4 months now. He was 11 months when we got him and we are his 3rd owners. He had a very bad time for the first 6months of his life, having been shut in a small room and beaten. As a result, he was very timid and quite aggresive when he came to us. Best bit of advice I got was to get him a puppy pen. He uses it as his safe place and we can put him there when he goes over the score. We have found one-word commands and food rewards very helpful. He now obeys us readily in the house. However, he still gets aggressive with men, both visitors and outside. We are using a ‘noise spray’ from Pets at Home and find this very helpful. He is fast becoming a very loving and lovable dog. These dogs need firm training and respond well to rewards. Our wee boy is coming on well, even though we have a long way to go.
Hi Tony, my bitch sounds similar to yours as she is dominant over my mums two male dogs and even the yappist one shuts up when shes around. She even tries it with me sometimes but I just persist until she does what I want her to do I never back down from her because then she thinks shes pack leader. Even though shes got her stubborn ways Pheobe and I have alot of fun with tricks such as sit, down, stay, roll over and paw. when I first began to train her I struggled as she was not interested in food and look at me like a mad women. But my local pet shop lady told me pheobe might not be food orientated so try lots of praise and it worked. Also have you used cheese I used to cut up small bits of cheese or ham and get her excited about it then she do anything for the nice piece of ham.
Good luck!
Hello all dog and staffie lovers, my partner and I rescued a two yr old staffie earlier this yr. However there have been some contraversy over my choice of dog with family and friends. My dog pheobe is a “huge” (25kg) staffie but I think shes a perfect medium size for us
p
Her character echo’s the other posts such as shes very easy to train and loves learning new tricks. She got bags of engery, very commical and adores children. My partners Nan breeds staffies and is involved in the dangerous act, she says she is deffinantly a mix although not with pitbul. She did say she could be a mix of labrador which I was happily suprised to hear. looking at some photos on here and reading the other comments I think this could be true. Pheobe looks like the first picture but alot more muscular.
Its just very annoying having to fight Pheobes cornner with people that think she could turn aggressive because they think shes too big. I love my Pheobe and I think staffies make fab dogs. Glad to hear other people comments and wish the people I encounter would be abit more relaxed about my dog

just adopted staff lab bitch she is very dominant of my two other male dogs very hard to train i have alot of experiance with traing dogs and she is very very stubborn and is still challenging me for pack leader……… she hates water so prob more staff then lab ….. my male dogs are staff and orther is a jack but this staff lab is not even food motorvated any TIPS PLZ ?
We have just adopted a labstaffy cross from the Dogs Trust and we are having a few issues with feeding. We can’t really sort out what is the best food and what quantity to feed her. She always seems hungry. She gets 2 good exercises a day. She is currently on Arden Grange, Lamb and rice Adult and she has 2 servings of 200g. This doesn’t seem to be enough, but we don’t want to over feed her too. She is constantly seeking attention, but we don’t know if this is because she is hungry or if she is just insecure. She has toys to play with and chew. Any comments about diet and exercise would be helpful. She is 15 months old and 17kgs.
we adopted a lab x staffy from the rspca around 6 months ago, she is 2 and absolutely wonderful. she is easy to train, and very easy to love. she is very good around people and is always demanding a belly rub. she’s not the easiest dog to walk on a lead as she is very strong. We love her very much and feel that we would like to get another staffy x lab, however we cant seem to find any breeders in the south and this time we would like a puppy. any suggestions?
I have a labstaffx named grace thats 1 year 7 months old she is a brilliant dog, she tends to have the best of both in her, she is not aggressive unless someone was to harm us i suppose as she does tend to bark and warn people off like labs tend to. She is brilliant around children of all ages she loves to play with them and they love to play with her too. As for training she is very good when it comes to doing little tricks, or told to stay, she listens most of the time, toilet training was very easy she was brilliant from day one. Walks are a different matter she gets very excited and likes to run about and see whats around only trouble is she is very powerfull having the size of a small lab and the muscles and power of a staffy which is hard to control, saying that though she is very good when there are others about and she is superb with other dogs loves to play. She likes to have short sharp exercise like throwing a ball for a little while like staffys need, but is also very lazy and sleepy like a lab. I would say she is a good all round dog that loves everyone to pieces, i would definately recommend this cross and i am so happy to have her around.
hi i just got a 8 week old puppy labcx staffie any tips how to train my little madam?thank u
I got my lab staffy cross when he was 4 months old and I was his fourth owner! He has taken his time in settling in but is getting there. He is fantastic at agility, but not very good with the obedience! Hopefully, in time that will improve and I have to remember to be stern as he is very dominant and extremely intelligent. I also have problems with the nipping and at times it is getting more like a bite. He is now coming up to 10 months and at training we have to use a muzzle, not for aggression but to calm him down as he is extremely hyper, has the attention span of a knat, but once he is calm he is fantastic it’s just getting him to that place. The trainer describes him as a very stubborn teenager! Today having taken him for a walk in some woodlands, he got away from me and I searched for over an hour looking and calling for him, eventually made my way back to the car, and what did I see in the distance, my dog sitting on the car roof, watching me!!! Obviously, not impressed that it had taken me so long to go back to the car, like all good children, if you get lost make your way back to the car as mum will eventually make her way back there! I would never be without him, he fulfills my life and definately makes it intersting.
Hi, we have a 12 week old lab staffy cross who is a bundle of energy. She is great! Lots of fun, very friendly, and is already whining to go to the garden to do her business, but she has a tendency to nip at the back of my daughters legs and jump up and grab her clothes. Is this because she has pent up energy? – she can’t go out to the park for another 10 days until she has got all her vaccs. I am hoping that once I can take her for a proper walk to drain her energy this will stop her getting so excitable. Has anyone got any tips to help with the nipping and jumping problem? thanks x
hi everyone! i have a staffie cross labrador , hes called brockee , hes brindle with floppy labrador ears and long labrador legs and a labrador long nose , the staff in him is the brindle , the head sortof, thats really about here, hes more like a big labrador!! had him from a puppy of 8 weeks old, hes been brillant, he was a lot of hard work and there were times where i felt like giving up but im so glad i didnt because once they know who is boss and when they hit 2 years of ages they chill right out obviously they still need lots of exercise but some days especially sundays!!hes quite happy to relax all day!! hes a bit of a baby he doesnt like the snow and the rain and is scared of some bigger dogs then him! he is very loyal, and protective, i would say to someone if they were to get one only get one if you have loads of time to give as they do need LOTS of exercise!!!! hes almost 3 now i will send some pics in .. thanks xxxx
we got a staffy cross from rspca 7 month old and looks just like your picture she loves cuddles and playing with her toys and. has played with children 2 years up and as never been aggressive, we love her very much and is an adorable dog. people cross the road when they see her they just dont give staffys a chance any dog can turn if provoked stop giving our staffies x a hard time.
Hi I have a five year old male staffy x labrador and I also breed these pups . My dog loves to swim, like a lab and is very loyal and loving but also a great guard dog he is very territoral and protective at the same time great with my kids and other pets . He is a large dog very stocky can look very mean when he wants to but ears down tail up looks alot like a lab. These dogs make fantastic family pets and I wouldnt change a thing about him . I find with our pups that the skinnier they are as pups the more lab they turn out where the larger stockier pups are more staffy . Great to train my boy will do anything for a bit of praise including kids playgrounds , slides opening gates and doors pressing buttons and just about anything else . Highly recomend these cross breeds.
We got our staffy lab cross from the dogs trust two years ago . She is the most gental caring dog I have ever had . Very protective and would much prefer to sleep than fight (as many people portray this of the breed) she is great around children and very gentle . Wouldn’t swap her for the world. .
food is the answer even when out walking have a handful af dried dog food in your pocket i find with this particular breed that you have to be very stern with them otherwise they will try be top dog when training try to use one word commands as in sit not sitdown and every time he responds reward him his stomach rules his head if you have kids make sure he obeys their commands also as he will try to move up in the pecking order in the family so its important that he knows his place they are very intelligent my own lad learned to open doors from about 4 months also if he is digging holes in the garden put some of his own poo in the holes and that should stop him otherwise they are very loyal and protective
hi iv just rescued an 15 month old staff lab but finding it haed to train him he is gettin there but was just seing if anyone had any tips or tricks
We rescued Muddy about 7 years ago, as a 9 month old (ish) puppy and haven’t regretted it for a moment. He makes us laugh every day. Some people think he’s aggressive because of the way he looks (big Staffy head) but he gets on with most other dogs, even though he’s been attacked several times by supposedly friendly dogs – spaniels, boxers and collies. He’s playful and energetic, he’s easy to train and has a great memory, and he’s given us much more than we give him. I always extoll the virtue of cross breed dogs – the best of both worlds without many of the genetic issues associated with pure breeds.
I have recently adopted a puppy which is a mongrel and myself and my partner were trying to work out what breeds she may have in her and thanks to you we are pretty certain she is staff x lab as she is almost a double of your puppy on the page. Now we think we can understand her behaviour alot more and understand what she may turn out like in the future… thank you. made us more confident with our pup
my dog is 18 months old and is very active and loves my two children. is very loyal and loves his toys
