We get many calls from people wanting to put their dog or pet (but generally dog) in a rescue because they are pregnant or have recently had a baby and now can’t offer the dog they time they need. Being a mother of 2 young boys with 4 big dogs I can appreciate that this does put an extra strain on your new life however if you you are planning to have a baby and have issues about dog and baby being together then DONT buy the cute puppy.

We know no one has a crystal ball to see into the future but a dog is a serious commitment they are not things that you can just dispose of when something changes in your life . If you dont see how a dog becomes a part of your family then you really shouldn’t be getting one. Most people would not give up on their children because of some thing changing in their lives would they, so why is ok to give your dog, to many its the same thing.

Please Please Please consider what may happen to that dog if things don’t work out the way you think.

Dog coats give your dog extra warmth and protection from the elements all year round. Some do it as a fashion statement others do it for practical reasons. But all in all dog coats are good things. Our four legged friends may well be covered in fur but many dogs still get cold or don’t like to get a soaking!

In addition to keeping warm, another reason to get your dog a coat is for protection from elements such as dust, dirt, snow and rain. A lot of dog coats are reversible or waterproof. If your dog doesn’t get dirty or wet, you don’t need to put as much effort into drying or cleaning him down after a winter walk in the woods. Most dog coats are fully machine washable and you can just throw it in the wash!  If the dog has irriatble skin condition then a coat may help too,  as it can protect him and help to avoid skin irritation.

 How to measure your mutt

Measure along your dog’s back from collar to base of tail, or where you want the coat to finish. Then measure around the widest part of your dog’s chest, usually just behind the front legs.

If you dog has a particularly muscular neck. It may be wise to measure round his collar as well.

Meet Jennifer our Head Trainer

As soon as I could, I got my very own dog, a three month old rescue Bull-Boxer (Staffordshire Bull Terrier crossed with a Boxer) named Oskar. Oskar was the real inspiration for my career change from the events industry to dog training.

Soon after getting him I started studying with the Academy of Dog Training and Behaviour (ADTB), where I’m now an Approved Instructor. Since qualifying, I have been training dogs in both classroom environments, and on a one-to-one basis, so have experience in dealing with a variety of dogs and training needs. In order to further my own knowledge, I continue to enrol myself in additional courses and am currently studying for my Diploma in Canine Behavioural Psychology with the Open College (accredited by The Sherwood Foundation Therapists Register).
